Almost two months ago, I wrote a press release called "The (Old) Boys Are Back in Town). Well, over the last week, most of the old boys has left Asian Federation. I knew it was a short term solution, and I felt ready to rejuvenate the team. Today, I would like to present the new Asian Federation squad.
-------------
The Hillers:
-------------
Raymon Carlos:
Raymon Carlos was picked up from Nairobi City Cycling Club, and will serve as the clubs captain in the hills. Carlos is primarily a hiller, but with his good sprinting abilities, he can also make several appearances on more flat races. The club expects a lot from this man.
Hjalte Glessner:
Picked up from US Postal 10, this Dane has been cycling for the same club his entire career. Being skilled in the hills, Glessner will be a great help for Carlos. Glessner is not as good of a hiller or sprinter, but his abilities as a climber surpass Carlos. It is very possible that Glessner will be given the leading role on some tougher races.
Theo Bruintjes:
Picked up from Pink Piyama, this youngster has already received some sprint training. The club hopes he can become a great asset to the team, and that he can one day become a leading figure for the club.
----------------
The Sprinters:
----------------
Ferdinand Kopecký:
Arriving from Sekos Team, Kopecký will be our sprinting captain for the season to come. The club does not expect him to become as big of a figure as Carlos, but he will get several chances to prove his worth. Kopecký has already settled into the club, and it seems he will remain at the club for many season to come. It remains to be seen if he will keep his captain role for the seasons to come.
Evariste Kapet:
Kapet is one of two riders remaining from the previous squad, and his abilities will be a great help for Kopecký. He is already 29 years old, so it is expected that he will be replaced within the next season.
Brás Dâmaso:
Dâmaso was picked up several weeks ago, but I did not make an announcement about it. Whatever can be said about Kapet, could also be said about Dâmaso. It is also expected that he will be replaced in a couple of months.
--------------------
The Time Trialers:
--------------------
Roger De Moor:
What can be said about Roger De Moor? Well, he arrived from nonnies, and we consider him a great pickup. Costing only a little bit above release value, Roger De Moor will be our leading time trialer, but may also step in to help Kopecký.
Eliazar Maldonado:
Arriving today from Team Jan, this Colombian will be expected to pick up a couple of points throughout the season. It is not expected that he will take our club to any new heights, but we are confident that he will deliver.
Cristofor Perezs:
Like Kapet and Dâmaso, Perezs and Maldonado are almost identical riders. Perezs arrived from Kremer, and his young age puts him a small step ahead of his Colombian team mate.
Ferdinand van Haal:
A member of the previous squad, Ferdinand van Haal was not supposed to be given a long term role at the team, but I am weak for his young age. Any results from van Haal would be great, but not expected.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the team that will lead Asian Federation for the season to come. The addition of hill riders is new, but it is a direction the team is happy to take. We are happy to focus on hill and sprint races, as these two can often intertwine. We are also confident that this team will be great for tours, maybe even more so that the previous squad.
